Nissan’s budget brand, Datsun has launched the higher capacity version of its redi-GO hatchback that will sport a bigger 1.0-litre petrol engine, and will be priced at a premium of Rs 23,200 over the 800cc version.

The car with the new 1.0-litre Intelligent Spark Automated Technology (iSAT) engine is rated to produce 67bhp of power, up by 14bhp from the regular 800cc variant, and at the same time, peak torque figures are up by 19Nm, which now delivers 91Nm.

The engine will be available in the top two, T(O) and S trims, priced at Rs 357,000 and Rs 372,000 ex-showroom pan-India, respectively. The ‘S’ trim will come equipped with a driver airbag as well.

The 1.0-litre engine, which is common to the sibling Renault Kwid 1.0-litre as well, automatically adjusts spark timing in response to fuel quality and power demand, and is rated to deliver 22.5kpl of fuel economy.

The engine gets an over-bored engine block of the 800cc three-cylinder unit, and also newer internals. Since the Kwid weighs slightly heavier, almost 10kgs than the redi-GO, Datsun says the redi-GO has been given different gear ratios, to make it peppier.

The bookings for the car had already commenced on July 12, for a sum of Rs 10,000 and the deliveries are expected to begin immediately.
