Fire, weather and earthquake resistant houses constructed using advanced technology were handed over to the underprivileged families as part of the ‘Umeed ki Awaaz’ initiative

Covestro, one of the world’s largest polymer companies, in association with Habitat for Humanity India, Industrial Foams and Cana handover the second in a series of three homes to three indigent families in New Delhi to promote sustainable and affordable living in the country under its ‘Umeed ki Awaaz initiative’.

Covestro India, the principal sponsor of the initiative and the lead member of the India Insulation Forum, provided with advanced materials in collaboration with Industrial Foams (Pvt) Ltd build the three state-of-art technology, energy efficient homes.

The innovation employed a paper honey comb structure lending load bearing capacity to the structure compressed between polyurethane (PU) foam and two cement board facings. The facings are chemically stable and provide safety against fire, offer weather and termite resistance. The PU foam provides insulation, helps in reducing heat and makes the home thermally comfortable. Paper honeycomb makes the environment-friendly.

We need to ensure that this technology is accessible and affordable to the poor. “

Covestro has long been engaged in the sustainable construction of affordable homes through its global partnership with Habitat for Humanity. In 2016, Covestro partnered with the Rajasthan Housing Board and Podar’s advisory division (PACE) to build homes using PIR panel that were energy efficient and which could withstand an earthquake up to 7 Richter scale.  Such innovations help us to understand the diverse offerings which Covestro is able to bring to the marketplace based on the needs.
