SBI blocks 6 lakh debit cards to ward off security threat

The State Bank of India is one of the top most banks of the nation, the bank has blocked nearly 6 lakh debit cards in order to ward off the security threat. The banks were offering debit cards to certain customers and were issuing new debit cards to them under precautionary measures but later blocked the debit cards.

The State Bank of India is under the process of solving the issue and has given a statement saying,” Card Network Companies NPCI, MasterCard, and Visa had informed various banks in India about the potential risk to some cards in India owing to a data breach. Accordingly, SBI has taken precautionary Measures and have blocked the debit cards of certain customers identified by the networks.”

The entire issue is very certain and thus the bank has taken up the decision to block the debit cards of about 6 lakh customers. The SBI official’s added up saying that,” We would like to emphasise that SBI”S system have absolutely not been compromised and existing card holders are not at ant risk and can continue to use their cards. SBI is in the process of issuing new cards at no cost to those card holders whose cards have been blocked. This is a card industry incident and not only SBI.” With this statement, it is clear that the other card holders whose cards aren’t blocked can normally use their cards and withdraw and deposit cash like always. There is no source of any risk to them.

On the matter the other well do bank of India, Axis bank has opened up and said that the malware attack was detected in time nd was informed on time about it to the RBI banks. This actually helped to identify the threat and take an immediate action towards it. The Axis Bank official had further added up saying,” We stay committed to our customers and it has always been our endeavour to ensure that our customer’s interests are always protected. There has been no loss of our customers.”
