The annual Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) began today at Netaji Indoor Stadium here with over 315 exhibitors from 9 countries, 26 states and Union Territories within the country.

While Goa, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir are the partner states in the fair Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh are the feature states.

Neighbouring Bangladesh and Nepal are the partner countries and Thailand is present as a feature country.

Kickstarting the TTF series, to be followed in several other states, West Bengal Tourism minister Gautam Deb said “Bengal has rich traditional and cultural heritage. With choices ranging from hill destinations in the Himalayas to excellent beaches on Bay of Bengal and verdant forests, the state has tremendous potential in attracting tourists from all over the country and other parts of the world.”

“We are also developing waterways and adventure tourism,” he said, adding that “interest and safety of tourists are foremost and with good law and order situation, the state is an ideal destination for all types of tourists starting from high end to budget travellers.”

Expressing confidence that Bengal would soon take a significant position in tourist arrivals, the minister said “such fairs will help boost tourism within and outside the state and the country.”

Attended by thousands of people, the fair would be open for travel trade till tomorrow afternoon, while it would be open for the public henceforward till Sunday evening.
