Odisha attracts investment worth Rs. 30000 Cr for urban development

Bhubaneswar : The State Government envisaged an overall investment of over Rs 30,000 crore in the state’s urban sector in the coming next 5 to 7 years.

A total of 50 projects including Bhubaneswar Town Centre District Development Sub-Plan, apart from pan city projects under the Intelligent City Operation Management Centre (ICOMC) System, for traffic and parking management, bus services, common payment card system, emergency response systems and a Command & Control Centre worth Rs 4,537 crore including Rs 2725 crore under PPP mode has been envisaged for smartening the capital under the National Smart City Challenge.

Likewise for Steel City Rourkela 30 projects including city area development sub-plan, apart from pan city projects for public mobility and transit, city surveillance and security, water management and sanitation systems, environment conservation and pollution control, affordable housing, market upgradation, river front development and smart metering and governance systems worth Rs 2571 crore have been decided to be invested.

Private sector investments to a tune of Rs 2000 crore in 1000 bio fuel stations in urban areas, renewable energy generation, solid waste management, smart and ‘green’ buildings, modernised Bus Rapid Transit Systems, Centralised Traffic Management System for better Urban Mobility, City Wi-Fi and Internet-of-Things (IOT) based integrated services.

Smart City investments:

  • Rs 1500 crore for 202 projects under AMRUT yojana
  • Rs 2,900 crore under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for renovation of state’s sewerage infrastructure
  • 100 million USD under Innovative Municipal Financing Facility for India (IMFFI) by Asian Development Bank
  • The Odisha Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (OUIDF) has been set up with Germany’s KFW to provide financial assistance for infrastructure development to the tune of Rs. 750 crore, through two phases
