Tata’s upcoming compact SUV has been spied testing and this time one could spot the Nexon with an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) unit. The Nexon was recently showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, which culminated in February 2016. What impressed us about the car was how Tata managed to bring it close to the production specification. It seems to have retained the original design as featured in the concept car that was showcased earlier.

During the biennial event, Tata also confirmed that the model displayed during the Auto Expo will be put into production without undergoing any major changes. It is expected that the car will be launched later this year, ahead of the company’s Kite 5 sedan, which is based on the company’s Tiago hatchback, which was launched this week.

Tata Nexon will compete with the likes of the Mahindra TUV 300, the recently launched Mahindra NuvoSport, the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment. There will be a 1.2-litre petrol powerplant, which the Nexon will share with the company’s Bolt hatchback. Taking on the engine duties in the diesel variants will be a new 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel motor, which is expected to make its debut with this compact SUV.

The Ford EcoSport is currently the segment leader in terms of power output, with its 100 PS of peak power output harnessed from the same 1.5-litre diesel motor that’s found in the Figo Aspire compact sedan and all-new Figo hatchback. The same power output is also offered by Mahindra’s NuvoSport, but the Revotorq motor in Nexon is expected to produce an impressive 110 PS of peak power output, which will be a segment-best and will outshine the competition. It is still unclear as to which variant will be offered with this automatic unit.
